A surprise desaru trip!

Date of fishing: 23rd April
Destination: Desaru
Weather: Sunny
Companions: Raymond, wifey and me
Baits: None

Reached seaside around 10am, but Ah Long's boat was nowhere in sight. The next 10 minutes, we saw his boat arriving with a group of Singaporeans for his night fishing. The tide was almost non-existence. Can we fish like that...? I thought..

We approached the tired uncles and ask "how was the waters?" Uncle shined and immediately responded " strong waves!" Ohh hooo.. I THINK IM GONNA REPEAT HISTORY AGAIN. They were unloading their icebox and we kay poh kay poh see see.. There were aplenty of ang kuehs, a few brown spotted gao and ang chors. Sizable fishes, each around 1kg or more.

Then its our turn to board the boat.

Me: You never sleep again huh?
Long: 3 nights liao lor
Me: Siao, money not earn this way la.
Long: Waves strong again, u suay kia la.. still want to go or not?
Me: Errrr... I take another novamin first.

So we go again, dunno what to expect for my journey this time.

As we were heading for TU, ah long parked his boat. He wanted to show us something.
Long: Look, the boat there, they are hauling for fishes.
We seen this alot at documentaries but never in our own eyes. The time was right tat the captain was ordering them to collect the net back. Call us suay kus ok..

Enough of educational stuffs... Suddenly the captain shouted as us in Malay, watcha doing here?? Long replied that we wanted to see the process and at the same time he was looking for sotong. The captain smiled, bended down and threw a big bag of fresh squids in. Wifey ask, no need $$?? Long said, at sea, we look out for each other and we do not talk abt $$.. WhoA.. so loyal..

We reached TU, but was surrounded with other boats. It was overcrowded. One boat was directly parked at the central of TU and they were happily jigging for ebek, skipjacks and talangs. Ah long tried to park his boat comfortably away from one another, but was difficult due to the strong winds. Soon, he knew this was not gg to work, he sat silent for a good 1 minute and told us he was changing spot.

The ride to his spot was hell! The waves were tall and we could see big twirling holes forming. Wifey and me were holding to the steely poles tightly, as if there is no tomorrow! Then upon reaching, we saw sportfishing 68 (This is Ah Jiang's right? And is usually horsburg he goes??) and a metal boat almost the size of sportfishing 68. We felt funny.. Ah Long said.. We are at Nan Zhong Guo Hai or South China Seas.. and WTH!! He's one crazy fella! and we are the same!

Now, the squids come into good use. We drop the squids, using apollo. Raymond got fish on, weighs about 1.5kg, nice size.

Then it was my turn, the fight took less than 5 minutes. Ah long called it Jinbodok, it looks like a orange spotted trevally. This one has lesser prob due to its smaller size.

Save the best for the last, wifey's rod bended and got whacked. But as she was reeling in, the fish float and for awhile, was it a stingray. Ah Long said.. cobia huh..still gt the feel? As it gets closer, confirm cobia. Double confirm! It didnt struggled until Ah Long poked it up. Ah long said.. cobia so small still got milk smell.

This trip made me felt like a superhero. Like David facing goliath.. And Ah Long, I still would say, 'HE'S ONE CRAZY FELLA!'
